The City of Toledo sees several thousand Domestic Violence case filings a year. Many end in dismissal after a lack of cooperation from victims, while others end in much more tragic ways (including the recent death of Kaitlin Gerber). In response to what is perceived as a rising epidemic of domestic violence in the City of Toledo, the Lucas County and City of Toledo Prosecutor’s Office have taken steps to focus attention on these cases. These steps range from focusing resources on felony arraignments to the hiring of a small team of prosecutors who focus strictly on Domestic Violence cases. While it is yet to be seen whether such adjustments will have any meaningful impact on victim involvement, it remains a noble undertaking in theory.
